OHIO VALLEY UNIVERSITY

Private Christian university Ohio Valley University was situated in West Virginia, midway between Parkersburg and Vienna. The school was established in 1958 (with classes starting in the fall of 1960), and it combined academics with Christian religious instruction. Physically, the college operates on two independent campuses, a combined 267 acres (108 ha). OVU once offered bachelor's degrees in more than 30 different fields of study, but it has since reduced these possibilities as enrollment and financial stability have declined sharply. The Higher Learning Commission, which granted the college accreditation, put it on academic probation in 2020 due to persistent financial difficulties. The OVU Board of Directors decided to close the college after the Fall 2021 semester in December 2021. Shortly after, the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission agreed to suspend OVU's right to award degrees. In the spring semester of 2022, seniors at various colleges and universities affiliated with the Churches of Christ could complete their degrees without losing any credit hours thanks to "teach out" arrangements. WTAP News received a report in August 2022 stating that OVU had no attendance records and had lost all academic journals dating back to 1960. University offers flexible classes scheduled in Zanesville with student groups such as Communication Studies Club, Alpha Phi Omega, Green Bobcats Environmental Club, and Student Senate, as well as intramural sports and cultural activities to round out your university experience.
