WEST VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY

West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public, historically black, land-grant university in Institute, West Virginia. It was founded in 1891 as the West Virginia Colored Institute, making it one of the original 19 land-grant colleges and universities established by the Second Morrill Act of 1890.

WVSU offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, including bachelor's degrees in education, business, nursing, and social work. The university also has a law school and a medical school.

WVSU is a member of the NCAA Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). The university's athletic teams are known as the Yellow Jackets.
