Founded in 1961, WVU Parkersburg is a technical college and an independently-accredited community affiliated with West Virginia University. WVU Parkersburg is located a bit far from Parkersburg city. The campus is home to - various buildings, the main administrative building, a library, the Workforce, and Community Education building, the College Activities Center, and the Caperton Center for Applied Technology, established in 1999. Recently completed facilities include the Eldon Miller Plaza, Applied Technology Lab, and the Early Childhood Learning Center. Built as a community college in west central West Virginia to serve seven counties - it offers baccalaureate programs now. Ranking fifth-largest public college and it is the largest community college in West Virginia, with over 3,900 students. Admission applications must be submitted by April 1 (Fall) and October 1 (Spring) each year. Although it was initially part of West Virginia University, it is now an independent public institution with its degree-granting authority and a board of governors. Students must complete their initial one or two years at the University of Parkersburg to be in a more comprehensive four-year program at WVU. The college's primary service consists of seven counties in West Virginia: Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood.
