Bakersfield, California is home to a number of educational institutions, one of which is the California State University, Bakersfield, also known as CSUB, Cal State Bakersfield, or CSU Bakersfield. It was founded in 1965 as Kern State College and officially changed its name to California State College Bakersfield in 1968. The school sits on a campus that is 375 acres (152 ha) in size and is the 20th campus in the California State University system, which has 23 campuses. The very first day of school was October 1st, 1970. The university gives students the opportunity to earn one of 39 unique Bachelor's degrees or one of 17 unique Master's degrees. A Doctor of Educational Leadership degree can be earned through the university's programme (Ed.D.). The primary campus is located in Bakersfield, and the Antelope Valley Center is located in Lancaster, California. As of the fall semester of 2021, there were more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students attending classes at either location. More than 59,000 people have graduated from one of the four schools at California State University, Bakersfield, including Arts and Humanities, Business and Public Administration, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering, and Social Sciences and Education. The majority of students at the university live outside of Bakersfield and attend classes on the commuter campus. The only public university west of the Rockies to offer a programme in petroleum geology is California State University, Bakersfield (CSU Bakersfield). The university is designated as a Hispanic-serving educational establishment.
