Pomona, California is home to the California State Polytechnic University, also known as Cal Poly Pomona, CPP, or simply Cal Poly. This university is a public polytechnic institution. It is a polytechnic university, making it one of the three that are part of the California State University system. When the Voorhis School for Boys and its adjacent farm in the city of San Dimas were donated by Charles Voorhis and his son Jerry Voorhis in 1938, Cal Poly Pomona got its start as the southern campus of the California Polytechnic School, which is now known as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Today, Cal Poly Pomona is known as Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. In 1949, Cal Poly expanded its southern campus by purchasing the University of California, W.K. Kellogg Institute of Animal Husbandry from the University of California. This move brought Cal Poly closer to Los Angeles. Will Keith Kellogg was the previous owner of the property that later became the W.K. Kellogg Institute of Animal Husbandry at the University of California, which was located in Pomona, California. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona, which was formerly known as Cal Poly Kellogg-Voorhis, continued their operations under a unified administrative control until 1966, when they both became independent from one another. The current degree offerings at Cal Poly Pomona include a bachelor's degree in 94 different majors, a doctorate, 39 master's degrees, 13 teaching credentials, and a total of 9 different academic colleges. The university is part of a select group of polytechnic universities in the United States. These universities tend to concentrate their efforts primarily on the teaching of technical arts and applied sciences. The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona is recognised as a Hispanic-serving institution (HSI), and it is also eligible to be designated as an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander serving institution (AANAPISI).
