The California Northstate University College of Medicine (also known as CNUCOM) is one of the four colleges that make up California Northstate University. It is a private medical school that operates for profit and is located in Elk Grove, California. CNUCOM is accredited to award the degree of Doctor of Medicine (MD). CNUCOM will continue to be a for-profit educational institution, despite the fact that the hospital that is being planned for California Northstate University will be operated on a not-for-profit basis. The Western Accreditation Service Commission gave its stamp of approval to the college of medicine in August 2013, and the Liaison Committee on Medical Education granted it preliminary accreditation in June 2015 and provisional accreditation in June 2019. (LCME). The LCME decided not to grant CNUCOM full accreditation in January 2022; however, the institution will continue to be provisionally accredited until further review takes place. At this time, California Northstate does not have authorization from either the Higher Education Act title IV, Student Assistance section or the Veterans Benefit Program title 38. This impacts the availability of refinancing options, access to federal student loans and other federal student funding, and the number of lenders available, which is currently limited to three.
