ABOUT
Valley City, North Dakota is home to a public educational institution known as Valley City State University (VCSU). The North Dakota University System includes it as a member institution. Valley City State Normal School was established in 1890 as a two-year teachers' college. In 1921, after receiving permission to award bachelor's degrees, the school changed its name to Valley City State Teachers College and became an accredited four-year institution. After World War II, in response to an increased demand for its services in a variety of fields beyond teacher education, the institution rebranded itself as Valley City State College in 1963. It was rechristened State University of North Dakota-Valley City in the year 1986, and then it was given its current moniker the following year. VCSU provides students with access to more than 80 different undergraduate programmes in addition to an online Master of Education degree programme. The graduating class of 2015 at Virginia College was 302 strong, making it the largest in the university's 125-year history. Since 1996, full-time students at VCSU have had access to laptop computers through the university's "laptop campus" initiative. The price of the laptops is included in the university's technology charge, which also pays for other technological advances to teaching, such as access to a wireless network that spans the entire campus and intelligent classrooms. The Virginia Polytechnic and State University campus has earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places' Historic District list.
-Valley City State University (VCSU) is ranked #33 out of 143 Regional Colleges Midwest in the 2023 edition of U.S. News & World Report's Best Colleges. It is also ranked #10 in Best Value Schools in the Midwest.
