The North Dakota State Institution of Agriculture and Applied Sciences, or North Dakota State University (NDSU), is a public land-grant research university located in Fargo, North Dakota, in the United States. It was initially established in 1890 under the name North Dakota Agricultural College and served as the land-grant university for the state. The North Dakota State University is a member of the North Dakota University System. It is the most populous educational institution in the entire state of North Dakota. Additionally, the institution manages the agricultural research extension centres that are dispersed around the state of North Dakota on a total of 18,488 acres (75 km2). According to the NDUS Systemwide Economic Study that was conducted by the School of Economics at North Dakota State University in 2015, the annual economic impact that NDSU has on the state and the surrounding region is projected to be $1.3 billion. Additionally, it was the sixth largest employer in the entire state of North Dakota in the year 2016.
