ABOUT

Milwaukee, Wisconsin's University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (UW–Milwaukee, UWM, or Milwaukee) is a public urban research university. It is a member of the University of Wisconsin System and the largest university in the Milwaukee metropolitan area. It is also Wisconsin's second largest institution and one of just two public universities that offers PhD degrees. The university has 14 schools and colleges, including the sole graduate school of freshwater science in the United States, the state's only school of architecture, and the first CEPH certified specialised school of public health in Wisconsin. The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee had a total enrolment of 27,156 students in 2015–2016, with 1,604 faculty members teaching 191 degree programmes, including 94 bachelor's, 64 master's, and 33 doctorate degrees. "R1: Doctoral Universities - Highest Research Activity" is the university's classification. A total of $55 million was spent on research by the institution in 2018. The Panthers are the university's athletic teams. In NCAA Division I, there are 15 Panther athletic teams. Since 2000, the Panthers have won the James J. McCafferty Trophy as the Horizon League's overall champion seven times. As of 2016, they had won 133 Horizon League titles and appeared in 40 NCAA tournaments.
