The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), formerly known as University College of the Fraser Valley and Fraser Valley College, is a public university in British Columbia, Canada, with campuses located in Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission, and Hope. UFV was formerly known as University College of the Fraser Valley and Fraser Valley College. It was in response to the demand for greater vocational training in the communities of the Fraser Valley that the institution that would later be known as Fraser Valley College was established in 1974. In 1988, it was elevated to the rank of a university college, which enables it to award degrees. It was formerly known as the University College of the Fraser Valley and experienced a period of fast expansion during which it became one of the largest university institutions in all of Canada. On April 21, 2008, the provincial government acknowledged the increased demand for higher education within the region and throughout the province by granting full university status to one of its educational institutions. The current number of students enrolled each year is greater than 15,000.
