"The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) is an institution of higher education that is located in Glasgow, Scotland. It is an art school that confers undergraduate degrees, post-graduate certificates (both taught and research-led), and PhDs in the fields of architecture, fine art, and design.
In the early 1800s, William Harley of Blythswood Hill was the first person in the area, located in the centre of Glasgow, to create the Garnethill neighbourhood. The school is located in a number of buildings on Garnethill. Between the years 1896 and 1909, Charles Rennie Mackintosh was responsible for the design of the majority of the city's most recognisable structures. The Mackintosh Building, after which the street is named, quickly became one of the most recognisable monuments in the area and remained standing for more than a century. It is a paradigmatic example of the Modern Style (British Art Nouveau style). In May of 2014, a fire seriously damaged the building, and then in June of 2018, there was another fire that completely destroyed the building, leaving behind only the charred shell.
The GSA moved up to the 11th spot in the QS World Rankings for Art and Design in the year 2022."
