ABOUT
In South Orange, New Jersey, there is a private Catholic research university called Seton Hall University (SHU). Seton Hall is the oldest diocesan university in the United States, having been established in 1856 by the then-bishop James Roosevelt Bayley and named after his aunt, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. With 11 schools and colleges, Seton Hall has a total student population of around 5,800 undergraduates and 4,400 graduates. It is listed as belonging to the category "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity". The university is notably well-known across the country for its dominant men's basketball team, which has participated in 13 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournaments and rose to prominence after reaching the 1989 tournament's final and falling to the Michigan Wolverines 80-79 in overtime. There has been a significant rise in applications from prospective students and game attendance as a result of the basketball success and more exposure on national television.
Seton Hall University is ranked as a top national university by several publications. It is also a member of the Association of American Universities, a prestigious group of 65 research universities in the United States and Canada.
