Spearfish, South Dakota is home to Black Hills State University (also abbreviated as BHSU), a public university. Its 123-acre (50 ha) campus in Spearfish, as well as its locations in Rapid City and Pierre, as well as its online and distance learning programmes, are home to close to 4,000 students. The students enrolled come from 43 different states, 29 different countries, and 64 of South Dakota's 66 counties. The South Dakota Board of Regents is in charge of BHSU's administration.
