Is there negative marking in PTE?

No! there, is no negative marking in PTE. However, there are 3 tasks for which partial credit scoring applies.  The three tasks are:

1. Reading: Multiple Choice Multiple Answer

2. Listening: Highlight Incorrect Words

3. Listening: Multiple Choice Multiple Answer

For these questions, you are required to answer the question by selecting all the correct responses. More than one response might be correct.

You score +1 for every correct option & (-1) for every incorrect option.

Example: Suppose a question has 4 options: E, F, G, and H. E and F are the correct options.

Case 1: If you select E & F, you score 2 points.

Case 2: If you select only one option, let’s say ‘E’. You will gain +1 for selecting option ‘E’ but you will not lose anything. Overall, you will score +1.

Case 3: If you select E & G. You will get +1 for option E & you will lose (-1) for selecting option ‘G’. Overall you will score 0.

Case 4: If you select option G and H. As both options are wrong, your score will be 0; you will not score (-2).

Case 5: If you select E, F and G. You will score 1+1-1 = 1

Case 6: If you select E, F, G, and H you will score 1+1-1-1 = 0

Case 7: If you don’t select anything, you will get 0.
