1. In 1782, Washington College was the first college to be chartered after the United States got rid of the British. President George Washington helped make this happen. Today, the small liberal arts school in Chestertown, Maryland, offers more than 40 bachelor's degree programmes with small class sizes. Outside of class, Washington College students are close enough to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, all of which are about 90 minutes away. 2.
