The University of Sydney (USYD), commonly referred to as Sydney University or Sydney Uni, is an Australian public research university that is situated in Sydney. It is one of the six sandstone institutions in Australia and the country's oldest university, having been established in 1850. The university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees through its eight academic faculties and university schools. Both domestically and internationally, the university maintains a strong reputation. The university was listed among the top 40 worldwide universities by QS. In terms of graduate employability, the university is ranked #1 in Australia and fourth overall by QS. One of the first colleges to admit students entirely on the basis of academic performance, it also welcomed women on the same terms as males. There have been five Nobel laureates and two Crafoord laureates associated with the university as alumni and faculty. Eight Australian prime ministers, including the current Anthony Albanese, two Australian governors-general, thirteen New South Wales premiers, including Dominic Perrottet, and 20 Australian High Court justices, including four chief justices, have all received their educations from the university. 110 Rhodes Scholars and 19 Gates Scholars have graduated from the university. The University of Sydney is a part of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, the Group of Eight, and CEMS.
