The University of Ottawa (French: Université d'Ottawa), also known as uOttawa or U of O or The University of Ottawa, has the world title as the largest English-French bilingual university. The university offers a comprehensive option of academic programs administered through ten faculties, including the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine, the Telfer School of Management, the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law, and the University of Ottawa Faculty of Social Sciences. With over 4.5 million titles, the University of Ottawa Library is included in 12 branches. The main campus is located on 105 acres (42.5 hectares) across the Rideau Canal in the Sandy Hill neighborhood directly to the northeast of Downtown Ottawa. The school is co-educational and enrolls over 6,000 post-graduate students and over 35,000 undergraduates. The school accounts for 17 percent of the student population, with approximately 7,000 international students from 150 countries. The university has a network and connect of more than 195,000 alumni. The University of Ottawa was established in 1848 by its own first bishop Joseph-Bruno Guigues of the Catholic Archdiocese of Ottawa, as the College of Bytown. The university's athletic teams are members of U Sports and are known as the Gee-Gees.
