Omaha, Nebraska is home to the University of Nebraska Medical Institution (UNMC), which functions as a public academic centre for health sciences. After being established in 1869 and receiving its charter as a private medical college in 1881, the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) joined the University of Nebraska System in 1902. As the university continued to grow at a rapid pace at the turn of the 20th century, it established a number of new colleges, including dental college, pharmacy college, college of nursing, and college of medical. After some time, it expanded to include colleges of public health as well as allied health professions. UNMC is projected to have an annual budget of $841.6 million for the fiscal year 2020 to 2021 and will have an economic effect of $4.8 billion in the city of Omaha.
