ABOUT
Mississippi State University, also known simply as Mississippi State University or MSU, is a public land-grant research university located close to Starkville in the state of Mississippi. It has a total research and development budget of $239.4 million, making it the largest in Mississippi and placing it in the "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity" category of universities. It is the college or university in the state that accepts the greatest number of new students each year. The Mississippi Agricultural and Mechanical College was chartered on February 28, 1878, and the university welcomed its first students in 1880. The name of the university has changed several times since its founding. The university is comprised of 12 different colleges and schools and provides over 180 different undergraduate, graduate, and professional degree programmes. It is also home to the only accredited programmes in architecture and veterinary medicine in the state of Mississippi. The National Sea Grant College Program and the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Program are both ones in which Mississippi State University is a participant. The primary campus of the university is located in Starkville, and the institution also maintains campuses in Meridian and Biloxi as satellite locations. The Bulldogs of Mississippi State University compete in NCAA Division I athletics as members of the western division of the Southeastern Conference. These teams are known as Mississippi State's intercollegiate athletic programmes. In 1932, Mississippi State became a charter member of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Bulldogs have been a part of college athletics for more than 120 years, and during that time they have won 21 individual national championships, 30 regular season conference championships, and 1 national championship title. Dudy Noble Field, which is located on the campus, currently holds 22 of the top 25 all-time NCAA attendance records, and the Left Field Lounge, which is located on the campus, has been described as the epicentre of college baseball. The university is known for its pervasive baseball fan culture.
