In the heart of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada's capital city, MacEwan University is a public institution of higher learning that offers undergraduate degrees. It was a two-year college prior to its transformation into Alberta's sixth university in 2009. The academic offerings at MacEwan University include 43 different diploma and certificate programmes, in addition to ten bachelor degrees and one applied degree. In addition to this, MacEwan University is the largest institution of its kind in the province of Alberta that accepts transfer students. Programs are available in the university's four colleges and two schools in the areas of liberal arts and sciences, health and community studies, engineering, physical education, nursing, and business. Other areas of study include the fine arts and communications. In addition to programmes designed to prepare students for university study and English for Speakers of Other Languages classes, the university also provides professional and personal development courses on a part-time basis that do not award academic credit.
