In the city of Anchorage, Alaska, there is a prestigious private university known as Alaska Pacific University (APU). In 1957, the institution that would later become known as Alaska Methodist University was founded. Despite the fact that it changed its name to Alaska Pacific University in 1978, the United Methodist Church continues to be the school's primary sponsor.
