Publicly funded academic research is carried out at Southampton University, which is located in Southampton, England. The University of Southampton is one of the top 100 universities in the world and a founding member of the Russell Group, which is comprised of research-intensive universities located in the United Kingdom. The institution is comprised of seven separate campuses. The primary campus can be found in the Highfield neighbourhood of Southampton, and the city is home to four additional campuses in addition to the main one: the Avenue Campus, which is where the School of Humanities is located; the National Oceanography Centre, which is where courses in Ocean and Earth Sciences are taught; Southampton General Hospital, which provides instruction in Medicine and Health Sciences; and the Boldrewood Campus, which is where an engineering and maritime technology campus as well as Lloyd's Register can be found.
