"The city of Kingston upon Hull, which is located in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England, is home to the Institution of Hull, which is a public research university. It first opened its doors in 1927 under the name University College Hull. Hull is the location of the primary campus of the university, and it is also the location of the Hull York Medical School, which is a collaboration between the University of Hull and the University of York. The Hull University Union provides services to the student body.
Lord Middleton served as the university's first chancellor from 1954 until 1969. He was succeeded by Lord Cohen from 1970 until 1977, Lord Wilberforce from 1978 until 1994, and finally Lord Armstrong (1994–2006). In April of 2006, Virginia Bottomley, also known as Baroness Bottomley of Nettlestone, was appointed to her position as the current chancellor."
