ABOUT
"Publicly funded research at the University of Essex can be found in the county of Essex in England. One of the plate glass universities that was first established, Essex was granted its charter by the royal government in 1965. The historic arms that are assigned to the Kingdom of Essex can be found on the shield of Essex, and the motto ""Thought the harder, heart the keener"" is taken from the Anglo-Saxon poem The Battle of Maldon. The institution is spread out among three separate sites: the main campus can be found at Wivenhoe Park, and there are also campuses in Southend-on-Sea and Loughton.
Since 2017, the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) has awarded Essex with the Gold rating for teaching excellence. In 2018, the university was also named University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards. Additionally, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) ranks Essex as an internationally excellent research-intensive university. The Queen's Anniversary Prize was awarded to the University of Essex on two separate occasions: once for advancing Human Rights in 2009 and again for Social and Economic Research in 2017. Additionally, the Regius Professorship was bestowed upon the University of Essex's Department of Government by Her Majesty, The Queen, in 2013.
