NORWICH UNIVERSITY

In Northfield, Vermont, there is a private senior military institution called Norwich University - The Military College of Vermont. It is the oldest senior military college and private institution in the country and provides on-campus and online bachelor's and master's degree programs. The American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy served as the institution's name when it was established in Norwich, Vermont, in 1819. The United States Department of Defense recognizes it as the "Birthplace of ROTC" (Reserve Officers' Training Corps), and it is the oldest of the six senior military institutions.
