Mount Saint Vincent University, also known simply as the Mount, is a public university that was established in 1873 in the city of Halifax, in the province of Nova Scotia, Canada. The majority of its students are undergraduates. Undergraduate programmes at Mount Saint Vincent are available in the areas of the arts, sciences, education, and professional studies. The Mount offers a total of thirteen graduate degrees, some of which are in fields such as applied human nutrition, school psychology, child and youth study, education, family studies and gerontology, public relations, and women's studies. Through a collaborative effort with St. Francis Xavier University and Acadia University, The Mount is now home to a doctoral degree programme leading to the awarding of a Ph.D. in Educational Studies. More than 190 classes, over ten complete undergraduate degree programmes, and four graduate degree programmes are all available online through The Mount. The relatively intimate class sizes, diverse academic offerings, and convenient location all contribute to the university's high enrollment numbers. A Canada Research Chair in Gender Identity and Social Practices as well as a Canada Research Chair in Food Security and Policy Change are both housed at the Mount. This educational establishment is one of a kind across the country because it offers a Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies degree, a Master of Public Relations programme, as well as a Chair in learning disabilities and a multitude of other programmes, faculty, and research initiatives.
