MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN

The Massachusetts Institution of Art and Design, also known simply as MassArt, is a public college located in Boston, Massachusetts that focuses on the visual and applied arts. It was the first art college in the United States to award an artistic degree, and it was established in 1873, making it one of the oldest art schools in the country. Additionally, it is the only publicly supported independent art school in the United States. Both the Colleges of the Fenway and the ProArts Consortium count it as a member institution. The Colleges of the Fenway is a collegiate consortium that shares resources and facilities and is located in the Longwood Medical and Academic Area of Boston (an association of seven Boston-area colleges dedicated to the visual and performing arts).
