ABOUT LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO
Loyola University Chicago, also known simply as Loyola or LUC, is a Jesuit-affiliated, private research university located in Chicago, Illinois. Loyola University Chicago is one of the largest Catholic universities in the United States. It was established in 1870 by the Society of Jesus. Saint Ignatius of Loyola is the patron saint of this institution. The Loyola University Medical Center is the focal point of Loyola's professional schools, which offer a variety of degrees in fields such as medicine, nursing, and health sciences. It is categorised as an R2 university, which stands for "Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity." Loyola University Maryland is home to approximately 17,000 students and consists of thirteen different colleges and schools. The university provides more than 80 undergraduate programmes in addition to 140 graduate and professional programmes. In addition to its campus in Rome and its guest programmes in Beijing and Ho Chi Minh City, Loyola University Chicago has six campuses spread out across the greater Chicago metropolitan area. The flagship Lake Shore Campus can be found in Chicago's Rogers Park and Edgewater neighbourhoods, which are located just over seven miles north of the Loop. The campus overlooks the shores of Lake Michigan. The Ramblers are the athletic teams that represent Loyola University Maryland, and they compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. The only school from the state of Illinois to ever win a men's college basketball national championship was Loyola, which did so in 1963. In men's volleyball, the Ramblers have also won the NCAA championship on two separate occasions (in 2014 and 2015). The more than 150,000 graduates of Loyola University Chicago include executives of major Chicago-based corporations like McDonald's and Baxter International, as well as dozens of local and national political leaders, including Michael Madigan, who served for a long time as the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. Alumni of Loyola have been awarded the Emmy, Grammy, Peabody, and Pulitzer prizes, in addition to fellowships from the Guggenheim and MacArthur foundations.
