Publicly funded academic research is carried out at Southampton University, which is located in Southampton, England. The University of Southampton is one of the top 100 universities in the world and a founding member of the Russell Group, which is comprised of research-intensive universities located in the United Kingdom. The institution is comprised of seven separate campuses. The primary campus can be found in the Highfield neighbourhood of Southampton, and the city is home to four additional campuses in addition to the main one: the Avenue Campus, which is where the School of Humanities is located; the National Oceanography Centre, which is where courses in Ocean and Earth Sciences are taught; Southampton General Hospital, which provides instruction in Medicine and Health Sciences; and the Boldrewood Campus, which is where an engineering and maritime technology campus as well as Lloyd's Register can be found. In addition, the institution runs a School of Art out of the neighbouring city of Winchester, as well as an international campus in Malaysia that specialises in providing training in engineering. Every single campus has its very own library on hand for students to use. Because it has 14,705 undergraduate students and 7,960 postgraduate students, the University of Southampton is now the largest university in the South East region in terms of the number of students enrolled in higher education. The University of Southampton Students' Union is responsible for providing students with support, representation, and opportunities to participate in social activities. These opportunities can range from participation in the Union's four media outlets to participation in any of the University's 200 affiliated societies or 80 sports. In addition to the sports centre that is located on the main campus, the university also owns and manages a sports field that is available for student use.
