ABOUT TUFTS UNIVERSITY
On the outskirts of Somerville and Medford in Massachusetts, there lies a private research university called Tufts University. Christian universalists who wanted to create a nonsectarian school of higher education founded it as Tufts College in 1852. In the 1970s, Tufts changed from a modest New England liberal arts institution to a sizable research university that offers a number of doctorates; it is categorized as a "Research I university," which denotes the highest level of research activity. Tufts is one of the 64 elite research universities in North America that make up the Association of American Universities. The institution is renowned for its internationalism, study abroad opportunities, and promotion of public service and active citizenship across all academic fields.
