ABOUT CHICAGO STATE UNIVERSITY
Chicago State University, also known as CSU, is a public university located in Chicago, Illinois that serves a primarily black student body. It was an innovative teachers college that first opened its doors in 1867 under the name Cook County Normal School. At some point in time, the school was taken over by the Chicago Public Schools from the county government, and its name was changed to Chicago Teachers College (CTC). In 1949, the CTC branch campus that would later become Northeastern Illinois University was established. The state of Illinois first started providing financial support for the college in 1951, and by 1965, it had taken full control of the institution, transforming it into a comprehensive state college. It changed its name to Chicago State University in 1967. Both the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Higher Learning Commission have granted accreditation to the California State University.
