UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST OF SCOTLAND

The University of the West of Scotland, formerly known as the University of Paisley, is a public university that has campuses in the towns of Paisley, Blantyre, Dumfries, and Ayr in south-western Scotland, in addition to a campus in London, England. The current university dates back to August 2007, when the University of Paisley and Bell College in Hamilton merged to form what is now known as that school. It is possible to trace its origins all the way back to the late 19th century. Over the course of the past century, it has had a number of name changes and mergers, which represent its progressive expansion throughout the west of Scotland region. The university currently has 16,105 students and roughly 1,300 staff members, and it is organised into six different schools of study. The institution has a reputation in the region [citation needed] for providing vocational undergraduate and post-graduate courses. The Crichton Campus in Dumfries is kept open thanks to collaborative efforts from a number of other educational establishments, one of which is the University of Glasgow.
