ROSALIND FRANKLIN UNIVERSITY OF MEDICINE & SCIENCE

In North Chicago, Illinois, there is a prestigious private graduate school known as Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU). More than 2,000 students are enrolled across the university's five schools: the Chicago Medical School, the College of Health Professions, the College of Pharmacy, and the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine. The School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is also a part of the university. The renowned DNA crystallographer Rosalind Franklin inspired the naming of this educational institution. Franklin's capture of Photo 51 in 1952, which was an X-ray diffraction pattern of the B form of DNA, was a seminal moment in the history of biology throughout the 20th century. The image can be seen in both the seal and the logo of the academic institution. RFU provides more than 29 graduate-level study programmes in a variety of health-related fields, including PhD programmes for medical and fundamental research. Its facilities include the first bioscience incubator in Lake County, Illinois, which is known as Helix 51. The new innovation and research building is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019, and it will be designed to encourage collaboration between academic and industry scientists.
