1. The American University in London, Richmond, was founded by Cyril Taylor, a politician and social entrepreneur who was also the head of the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS). It started teaching on the grounds of the old Richmond Theological College, which was founded in 1843 as a Methodist theological college and is now part of the University of London. 2. Richmond used to be a place for US students to study abroad, but in 1981, the Washington DC Board of Education gave Richmond permission to give US undergraduate degrees and full accreditation from the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (now the Middle States Commission on Higher Education)
