EMILY CARR UNIVERSITY OF ART AND DESIGN

Emily Carr University of Art + Design, also known as ECU, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, is a public art university. The university operates four academic faculties, the Ian Gillespie Faculty of Design + Dynamic Media, the Jake Kerr Faculty of Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Culture + Community, and the Audian Faculty of Art, and is also a co-educational institution. The university's campus is within the Great Northern Way Campus in Strathcona. The school was established as the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts in 1925. The university was able to issue its degrees by 1994 and began offering its first graduate programs in 2003. In 2008, the institution was designated as a special-purpose teaching university under the province's University Act. As the leading Canadian institution solely dedicated to making, ECU offers the highest caliber of interdisciplinary faculty and progressive research opportunities.
