ABOUT OAKLAND UNIVERSITY
In Michigan's Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills, a public research institution is called Oakland University. Initially, it was known as Michigan State University-Oakland and operated under the Michigan State University Board of Trustees when it was established in 1957, thanks to a gift from Matilda Dodge Wilson. In 1970, the board gave the university institutional autonomy and changed its name to Oakland University. One of the eight research institutions in the state of Michigan, Oakland University is categorized as an "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity" institution. The institution provides 138 professional graduate certificates & master's degrees from the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and 132 bachelor's degree programs. More than 20,000 students were enrolled there overall in 2016.
