ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA MERCED
The tenth and newest of the Institution of California campuses is the University of California, Merced (UC Merced), a public land-grant research university in Merced, California. UC Merced was formed in 2005 to "address the region's historically low levels of educational achievement." More than 99 percent of the 8,321 undergraduate students and 772 graduates at UC Merced are from California, and the school has the highest proportion of low-income students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the whole UC system (63.8%). One of Merced County's top employers, UC Merced generates around $1.7 billion in revenue for the San Joaquin Valley. With every building on campus having received environmental certification, the university is also one of the most environmentally friendly in the nation according to its Triple Zero Commitment. According to U.S. News & World Report, UC Merced's undergraduate programmes are ranked 97th overall among U.S. national research universities, and it is categorised as one of "R2: Doctoral Universities - High Research Activity" institutions.
