ABOUT UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA FAIRBANKS
The University of Alaska Fairbanks is home to a number of intercollegiate athletic teams, which are collectively known as the Alaska Nanooks. The word "nanuq" comes from the Inupiaq language, which is where the Nanooks got their name. Blue and gold are the colours that represent the school. The Nanooks participate in NCAA Division II competition for all sports with the exception of men's ice hockey (NCAA Division I). The majority of Nanooks sports compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC).
