ABOUT NORTH CAROLINA A&T STATE UNIVERSITY
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State Institution, generally known as North Carolina A&T, N.C. A&T, or just A&T, is a public, historically black land-grant research university located in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is also known as North Carolina A&T State University. It is a part of the University of North Carolina System, which makes it a constituent institution. It was established on March 9, 1891, by the North Carolina General Assembly under the name Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race. It is the second college to be established in accordance with the provisions of the Morrill Act of 1890, but it is the first college in the state of North Carolina that is reserved specifically for people of colour. At the beginning of its existence, the institution provided education in the fields of agriculture, English, horticulture, and mathematics. The North Carolina General Assembly elevated the college to the status of a regional university in 1967, at which time it also received its current name, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The university's eight colleges, one school, and one joint school collectively offer a total of 54 undergraduate degrees, 29 master's degrees, and nine doctoral degrees. Additionally, the university confers more than 2,600 degrees annually and has a population of approximately 65,000 former students.
