ABOUT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY
A public land-grant research institution in Ames, Iowa, is known as the Iowa State University of Science and Technology (also known as Iowa State University, Iowa State, or ISU). When the Iowa Legislature approved the terms of the 1862 Morrill Act on September 11, 1862, making Iowa the first state in the country to do so, Iowa State, which had been founded in 1858 as the Iowa Agricultural College and Model Farm, became one of the country's first designated land-grant institutions. The college was renamed Iowa State University of Science and Technology in writing on July 4, 1959.
