ABOUT FLORIDA ATLANTIC UNIVERSITY
The main campus of Florida Atlantic Institution is located in Boca Raton, Florida, although the university also maintains satellite campuses in Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Jupiter, and Fort Pierce. Florida Atlantic University, also known as FAU, is a public research university. South Florida is served by Florida Atlantic University, which is one of the 12 campuses that make up the State University System of Florida. In 1961, Florida Atlantic University became the state's fourth publicly funded university, and it has since evolved to become the sixth largest university in terms of student enrolment in the state. According to the Carnegie Classification system, Florida Atlantic University is a "R2: Doctoral Universities – High Research Activity" institution. Within its 10 colleges, Florida Atlantic University provides students with access to more than 180 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has conferred its accreditation upon the university (SACS). When it first opened its doors in 1964, Florida A&M Institution was the first public university in the Miami metropolitan area. Its curriculum consisted only of upper-division and graduate-level classes. Only 867 students were enrolled when the institution first opened its doors in 1984, when it began accepting first-year students into its lower-division undergraduate programmes. As of the year 2021, there are more over 30,000 students enrolled, and they come from 180 different nations, 50 different states, and the District of Columbia. The university's annual economic effect is estimated to be $6.3 billion and its budget for the year is $900 million. Over the course of its history, which began in 1964, Florida Atlantic University has conferred degrees on more than 185,000 graduates. The Florida Atlantic Owls, which represent FAU in intercollegiate athletics, participate in the top division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as well as in Conference USA (C-USA). The Owls have won a multitude of titles and championships within the conference and division thanks to the fact that they field 19 varsity athletic teams. Florida Atlantic University announced on October 21, 2021 that they would accept an invitation to join the American Athletic Conference (AAC), and they would become a full member of the conference on July 1, 2023.
