ABOUT GOLDSMITHS UNIVERSITY OF LONDON
Goldsmiths, Institution of London, sometimes known as Goldsmiths' College, is a constituent research university of the University of London in England. Its official name is Goldsmiths, University of London. The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths established the institution in 1891 in New Cross, London, under the name The Goldsmiths' Technical and Recreative Institute. After being purchased by the University of London in 1904, the institution became known as Goldsmiths' College and focuses on education in the fields of the arts, design, humanities, and social sciences. The Richard Hoggart Building, which is the most prominent structure on campus, was first opened to the public in 1792. Prior to that, the Richard Hoggart Building served as the location of the Royal Naval School. According to Quacquarelli Symonds (2021), Goldsmiths University is placed 12th for Communication and Media Studies, 15th for Art and Design, and among the top 50 for Anthropology, Sociology, and Performing Arts. In the year 2020, the institution has more than 10,000 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programmes combined. 37% of students originate from countries other than the United Kingdom, while 52% of undergraduates are considered to be "mature" pupils (aged 21 or over at the start of their studies). In addition, approximately one third of Goldsmiths' student body is comprised of postgraduate students.
