1. The University of Nottingham began as the first college of its kind in Nottingham. It was called a Civic College, and its main campus is now called University Park. 2. Even when it was just starting out, famous people like Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Einstein, and H.G. Wells came to teach there. Since then, it has continued to grow and change. It now has campuses all over the world, even in Malaysia and China. The university has always put an emphasis on new ideas. In 1970, it opened the UK's first medical school built in the 20th century. In 1955, it merged with the Mid-Trent College of Nursing and Midwifery to form the School of Nursing.
