ABOUT TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY
Located in Lubbock, Texas, Texas Tech Institution is a public research university. It was founded on February 10, 1923, and was known as Texas Technological College until 1969. It is the primary institution in the Texas Tech University System, which consists of five institutions. As of the Fall 2018 semester, the university has the seventh-largest student body in Texas. At Texas Tech, there were 40,322 students enrolled as of autumn 2020 (33,269 undergraduate and 7,053 graduate). Texas Tech University, a designated Hispanic-serving institution, has a population of undergraduate students who identify as Hispanic that is above 25% of its total (HSI). Through its 13 schools, the university grants degrees in more than 150 different subject areas and is home to 60 research centers and institutes. Since its founding in 1927, Texas Tech University has conferred more than 200,000 degrees, including more than 40,000 graduate and professional degrees. R1: Doctoral Universities - Very High Research Activity includes Texas Tech. The university's most well-known research initiatives are in the fields of epidemiology, pulsed power, grid computing, nanophotonics, atmospheric sciences, and wind energy. The Spanish Renaissance-inspired campus has been recognized with the Grand Award for excellence in grounds-keeping and has been dubbed "the most beautiful west of the Mississippi until you get to Stanford" by author James Michener. It is also known for having one of the top ten public art collections in the country.
