ABOUT GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY

The Georgia Institution of Technology, also known as Georgia Tech or just Tech within the state of Georgia, is a public research university and institute of technology located in the city of Atlanta in the U.S. state of Georgia. It is a member of the University System of Georgia and includes campuses in Savannah, Georgia; Metz, France; Shenzhen, China; and Singapore. Additionally, it is a satellite campus of the University of Georgia. In 1885, as a part of the Reconstruction efforts to build an industrial economy in the post-Civil War Southern United States, the institution was established. At the time, it was known by its current name, the Georgia School of Technology. At first, they provided solely a degree in mechanical engineering to their students. By 1901, the school's curriculum had grown to encompass not just mechanical but also chemical and electrical engineering. The school formerly known as a trade school changed its name in 1948 to reflect its development into a larger and more capable technical institute and research university since it had previously been known as a trade school. Today, Georgia Tech is comprised of approximately 31 departments and units among its six colleges, with a primary focus on scientific research and technological development. The university's degree programmes in computer science, engineering, and business are well regarded throughout the industry. Student life includes participation in a variety of sporting activities, including both organised and intramural competitions. The intercollegiate athletic teams of the school, including the football team that has won the national championship in football four times, as well as the Yellow Jackets' fight song, "Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech," which is well known across the country, have all contributed to keeping Georgia Tech in the public eye. In the athletics competitions held by the NCAA Division I and the Football Bowl Subdivision, Georgia Tech fields a total of eleven teams, eight for men and seven for women. In the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Georgia Tech competes as a member of the Coastal Division's teams.
