ABOUT PRAIRIE VIEW A&M UNIVERSITY
Prairie View A&M Institution (PVAMU or PV) is a land-grant university in Prairie View, Texas. It is one of Texas' two land-grant colleges and the state's second oldest public institution of higher learning, having been founded in 1876. Through eight colleges and the School of Architecture, it offers baccalaureate degrees in 50 academic majors, 37 master's degrees, and four doctoral degree programmes. PVAMU is the second-largest HBCU in Texas and the third-largest HBCU in the country. The Texas A&M University System and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund are both members of PVAMU. Prairie View A&M has 18 intercollegiate sports teams, which are referred to as the "Prairie View A&M Panthers." Prairie View A&M is a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) (SWAC). Prairie View A&M is the conference's lone remaining founder member.
