ABOUT CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF AMERICA
The Catholic University of America (CUA) is a prestigious private institution of higher learning located in Washington, District of Columbia. It is the only institution of higher education in the United States that was established by Catholic bishops and serves as a pontifical university for the Catholic Church in the United States. After receiving authority from Pope Leo XIII in 1887 to function as a graduate and research institution, the university did not begin offering undergraduate instruction until 1904. It is currently categorised as a "R2: Doctoral University - High research activity." Its campus is located adjacent to the Brookland neighbourhood, which is also known as "Little Rome." This neighbourhood is home to sixty Catholic institutions, such as Trinity Washington University, the Dominican House of Studies, and Archbishop Carroll High School, in addition to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. This neighbourhood is also known as "Little Rome." The liberal arts, professional education, and individual growth are prioritised across CUA's academic offerings. The Catholic Church and other Catholic groups remain very important to the institution, which maintains tight ties with both. In order to raise money for scholarships, the residential U.S. cardinals host an annual dinner called the American Cardinals Dinner. The university has a long history of collaborating with the Knights of Columbus; both the law school and the basilica at the university contain sections that are dedicated to the Knights' participation and support.
