ABOUT MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY
The Michigan Mining School at the Upper Peninsula of Michigan is the first post-secondary institution. Formed in 1885 and is now known as Michigan Technological University (Michigan Tech, MTU, or just Tech). It is a public research university in Houghton, Michigan. In 1897, the school's name changed to the Michigan College of Mines, and it was changed again in 1927 to - The Michigan College of Mining and Technology. In 1964, the college was elevated to a university and given its present name, Michigan Technological University. Association accredits the College of Business, Michigan Technological University to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business—fewer than 5% of business schools in the world earn this title. The main Michigan Tech campus is situated on US-41 in Houghton. According to Reader's Digest, this campus is the safest in Michigan and 3rd in the United States. More than 230 student organizations participate, laugh, and lead—around Michigan Tech and in the community. And more than 600 clubs to join and explore students' interests in Art, Technical, and many other streams.
