ABOUT CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY
Located in Cleveland, Ohio, Case Western Reserve Institution, also known as CWRU, is a private research university. In 1967, Western Reserve University, which had been established in 1826 and named for its location in the Connecticut Western Reserve, and Case Institute of Technology, which had been established in 1880 through the endowment of Leonard Case, Jr., formally federated to form Case Western Reserve University. Case Western Reserve was born out of this union. The Association of American Universities recognises Case Western Reserve University as one of its "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity" institutions. Case Western Reserve University is a member of the AAU. The university ranked 20th among private universities and 58th in the nation in terms of its research and development (R&D) expenditures in 2019, as reported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). These expenditures totaled $439 million. The institution is comprised of eight schools and features more than one hundred undergraduate programmes in addition to around one hundred sixty graduate and professional degree programmes. There have been seventeen Nobel laureates who were either faculty or graduates at Case Western Reserve University or one of the two universities that preceded it. In 1887, the illustrious Michelson-Morley experiment was carried out at this location. As a result, Albert A. Michelson became the first American to be awarded the Nobel Prize in a scientific discipline. The primary campus of Case Western Reserve University may be found approximately five miles (eight kilometres) east of the city's central business district in a section of Cleveland known as University Circle. This neighbourhood is home to a number of educational, medical, and cultural organisations. Case Western Reserve University has a number of programmes that are taught in conjunction with other University Circle institutions. These institutions include University Hospitals, the Cleveland Clinic, the Louis Stokes Cleveland Department of Veteran's Affairs Medical Center, the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Cleveland Hearing & Speech Center, the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Institute of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, and the Cleveland Play House. Case Western Reserve University is located in the University Circle neighbourhood of Cleveland, Ohio. On the campus of Case Western Reserve sits Severance Hall, which serves as the home of the Cleveland Orchestra.
