Public Lamar University, also known as LU, is located in Beaumont, Texas. Since 1995, Lamar has been a part of the Texas State University System. It was the flagship institution of the former Lamar University System. 16,191 students were enrolled in the university as of the autumn of 2021. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools confers its accreditation on Lamar University. The second president of the Republic of Texas, Mirabeau B. Lamar, is honoured by having the university bear his name. The Cardinals, Lamar's collegiate athletic teams, are the organisation with the most notoriety. The main campus of LU is 299+ acres, and it is located in an urban area. Five undergraduate colleges, including the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business, Engineering, Education and Human Development, and Fine Arts and Communication, as well as one graduate college, the College of Graduate Studies, and an honours college, the Reaud Honors College, make up the educational structure of LU.
